How to encourage people to use of bicycle?

Bicycling is one of the sustainable transport or green transport where means of transport with low impact to environment where it is an accessible, low cost, non-polluting and healthy mode of travel. It has the potential to significantly reduce road congestion, oil use, and air and water pollution, improve road safety, community health and exercise levels. Besides that, it can also improve the amenity and safety of neighborhoods, enhance general mobility and contribute to tourism. However, if the road design and traffic management are poor the cyclists may become the most vulnerable of all road users. There have many factors that will affecting bicycle usage for example road design management, trip length, climate and many more, but to make the policy successful we must do some changer or educated people to use of bicycle.

How to encourage people to use of bicycle?

●encourage people, who don't currently cycle, to have fun giving cycling a go.
● give people a positive cycling experience which quickly change their perceptions and
attitudes towards cycling
● get people to take the first step to becoming a cyclists

There are two key questions that need to be considered to when trying to get more people cycling:
● How can I get people who do not currently cycle to start cycling?
● How can I get people who cycle recreational to start cycling for transport?

Attractiveness of cycling mainly depends on the infrastructure available. The following principles have been applied:
  • cycling should be affordable to all residents and visitors;
  • bicycle paths along main roads have to be extended;
  • more covered and locked bicycle stands have to be offered, in particular at traffic junctions;
  • on bicycle routes frequent traffic lights stops should be substantially reduced;
  • greener and less noisy routes should attract more cyclists;
  • Bicycle routes in Copenhagen should be linked to routes in the surrounding regions.http://www.eaue.de/winuwd/175.htm
When people experience what it’s actually like to cycle (as opposed to what they ‘perceive’ it’s
like to cycle) they find themselves saying, “Hey, this isn’t so bad after all. Cycling isn’t as scary or as hard as I thought. It’s actually quite easy to ride a bike, and it’s fun! I could do this more in
future”.
